Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union until the early nineties, but it is now looking west and attaches a great deal of importance to tourism.
Ukraine is flat with a pleasantly temperate continental climate and a sub-tropical southern fringe, in the Crimea. The winters are severe but the summers are warm and are therefore the best time to visit Ukraine. The Crimea is certainly an attractive holiday destination, not just because of its climate, but also because of its beautiful countryside and its special cultural treasures.
Kiev is not just the capital, but also the most important city in Ukraine. In a typical southern setting, you can visit Sophia Cathedral, Andreyevsky Church and the magnificent Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra Monastery, which are all magnificent buildings constructed in a Gothic or Baroque style. Odessa, which is one of the biggest cities in Ukraine, is also worth a visit.
