Slovenia, officially known as Republic of Slovenia, was part of the ancient Socialist Federal republic of Yugoslavia until 1991 when she gained independence. Since May 2004, Slovenia is a member state of the European Union and it adopted the euro in January 2007.
Slovenia shares borders with Austria to the north, Hungary to the east, Croatia to the south and Italy to the west; the Alps, the Dinaric Karst, the Pannonian plain and the Mediterranean Sea meet in Slovenia, giving it a unique geographic variety.
In Slovenian cities and towns, tourists will discover the Roman and medieval heritage of the country and, in every corner, they will be surprised by rich culinary traditions, popular wines coming from the three winegrowing regions of the country and historical well-preserved traditions.
