Latvia, officially known as Republic of Latvia, is one of the three small Baltic republics, which shares borders with Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south and both Russia and Belarus to the east. It is separated from Sweden in the west by the Baltic Sea.
Despite its dimensions, Latvia has ancient history and traditions; its many interesting features – nature spots, ancient and modern architectural attractions, traditional cultural events throughout the year, outdoor recreation possibilities – make it an exciting trip destination.
Independent since 1991 and a member of NATO and of the European Union since 2004, Latvia is a country of contrasts - old and new, good and bad, exciting and dull experiences -, but it is also a country of wonder and untouched nature. All this provides visitors with the opportunity to experience something fresh and in its natural state. Not surprisingly many already define it as one of the destinations “to be discovered before others do”.
