France is one of the biggest countries in Europe and is known for its magnificent coastline, mediaeval settlements, the romantic city of Paris and its lovely scent of lavender.
People who talk about France usually mean Paris, which is a magnificent city full of sights. However, France has more to offer. You can discover all of France's different regions, each with its own charms and attractions. There is Provence, for example, with its Mediterranean atmosphere, Dordogne in the centre of France, where you can walk and cycle, unspoilt Brittany and Alsace, which is known for its excellent wine.
France has miles of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. Nice and Monaco, in particular, are famous seaside resorts, but there are also beautiful beaches in Normandy and Brittany. The weather is rather bracing in the latter two regions. More inland, you can sample French culture in small villages, nestling among fields of lavender.
