Kenya is well known among tourists for safaris, magnificent nature reserves, wild animals and the Masai, colourfully dressed indigenous tribespeople who wander through the countryside with their herds of cattle.
You will find many different landscapes in Kenya. The West is nice and green, while the North offers a desert landscape. Most of the population live in the West or South-west of the country. This region has the most attractive seaside resorts, including Mombasa. Sun worshippers are spoilt for choice here, with a 400-kilometre long coastal strip with pearl-white beaches, palm trees and a pleasantly warm sea.
The South of Kenya is mainly favoured by tourists who want to go on safari or enjoy one of the nature reserves. In the large wildlife parks, the Masai wander around with their herds of cattle and you can see lions, elephants, giraffes and other animals. You are most likely to be able to see the animals in the months of January and February, since they congregate around the waterholes in large numbers during these months of the dry season.
